I learned to drive a manual in a 1968 Ford 1/2 ton with a 390 and three on the column
and the automatic car was a 1973 Ford Torino with a 300 6 cylinder.
The truck had a bright light switch was on the floor. The AM radio was complimented with an 8 track player
and an Audiovox power booster, both mounted under the dash.
My first hand me down car was supposed to be my Grandmother's 68 4 door Chevy Belair. It had vinyl seats and a 350 with an automatic.
The ignition key was in the dash. The rear defroster was a blower fan in the rear package tray.
but it rusted out and away too much to be safe before I became of age to drive.
My first car that I bought was a 1973 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. Tan with a light brown vinyl top and interior with bucket seats.
It had a 455 and a turbo 400 trans. I bought it not running - it needed a set of heads - the originals were cracked.
It was from Arkansas, so it was not your typical Illinois rust bucket. It just had a little rust on the trunk.
Got it running - the only thing it did not pass was a gas station.
Got a speeding ticket while driving my mom's car, with my sister was in it.
My car was sold as punishment.
That was the last car that was put in joint ownership with my parents and I have had my own insurance ever since as well.
What vehicle did you learn to drive in, what was your first car and what happened to it?

I learned to drive in my Mom's T-Bird. It had a 5xx ci engine. My first car was a '77 Camaro. 305 V8, auto, burnt orange with a tan interior. Sold it to a buddy of mine who rolled it. I'm pretty sure it was crushed for scrap.

Only memory I have of learning to drive is driving my grandmothers 83-86 Mercury Marquis. It had to be the very first time I had driven, because I remember we (her, my little brother, & I) were going to my granddad's grave. Came to a T Intersection and we were turning right. As I began to turn (in my mind "power steering" meant barely have to turn steering wheel to turn). So instead of turning right, we proceeded to go straight and straight towards a ditch. She screams "STOP", I slam on brakes and my little brother and All his toys ended up in the rear floorboard!! It was freaking hilarious and we all laughed the rest of the way..... Although I don't remember who drove the rest of the way! LOL. GOOD TIMES
Oh and my first car was 1985 Olds 442

This is a long story so get comfortable. I learned to drive in a 1974 ford pinto station wagon with a 4 cyl and four on the floor. I was around 14 when my dad let me start learning and it wasn't long before he'd let me take it to the local convenience store in our rural (very rural) area to get his cigarettes, bread, milk, whatever was needed. A couple years later my younger brother totalled it when he put it in a ditch at a pretty high speed.
My first car was a 1966 Galaxie 500 2 door. I bought it from my buddy who lived kinda close to us while I was learning to drive. I was still 14 years old. My brothers still pick at me about this car to this day. So he needed money and I had $75.00 that it took me my entire life to save. I agreed to give him another $25.00 when I could and just like that, the car was mine. It had no title and I had no drivers license. Since I was only 14, my parents weren't about to let me go anywhere in it. I had to let my older brother drive me around in it. That SUCKED. Anyway, I come home from school one day and my car wasn't there. My brother's old beater was in the driveway and he wasn't home. I immediately knew what that rotten B@$&*$@# had done. He took MY car to work that day. Later, him and his buddy finally show up in my car but they aren't driving it forward, they backed it all the way home from where they worked (about 12 miles). Forward gear in the auto trans had mysteriously went out. I couldn't kick his butt cause he was older and bigger and my dad only fussed at him and dropped it. I was so abused as a kid! I ended up selling the 289 engine out of it for $150.00 and the body to some dude for $35.00 so I made a little money off it. I still need to kick his butt for this.
After that, I figured it was cheaper to drive my parents' cars so I did that until it became inconvenient and bought me a 1970 ford f100 pickup. I think I was 17 by then.

OK, so you learned to drive in a 74 Pinto. Your first car was a 66 Galaxie. See how easy that was?? I now understand why you drive an LT1, tho. Gotta exaggerate everything and still take forever to get to the end.

Okay, okay, I'm busted. I guess Kane is just too smart to be buffaloed. I didn't really learn to drive in a 74 Pinto station wagon and my first car wasn't a Galaxie 500. I learned to drive an Orion TR78 Night Raven. It was an ancient piece of junk with repulse gate flexals and still used plasma deaerators. Talk about old technology. The thing was always having problems with it's inefference modules cracking around the upper collets. You older fellas probably remember those days.
And my first car was a 1996 Pontiac Formula convertible. I still have it.

I am particularly impressed he stayed awake to read Hoot's "not as long of" entire post. It had no pictures to keep his attention!!
