Once again I have to give much thanks to Clayton for fixing the purple car. It has been overheating which Clayton thought was from only having roughly 40% of the radiator having air drawn thru it by the single electric fan. I haven't driven it since last year's CTC. I ordered a dual electric fan/shroud kit that fits over and draws air thru the entire radiator. Universal fit and drop right in. Yeah right! I had measured to make sure that the new system would clear the water pump pulley but didn't take into consideration the power steering box. Long story short, Clayton cut out a section of the new shroud and fabricated a piece to seal up the hole so that it couldn't draw air in from the back side. We said we should send the company a pic of it so that they can make it a standard feature. With that problem solved he moved on the the next one. The new shroud just wouldn't exactly fit in between the sides of the radiator so Clayton took sheet metal benders and messaged the sides of the shroud until it had a honeymoon fit. Second problem solved. Now on to the next one. The brackets that were sent to mount the new shroud wouldn't mount to anything on my car. Clayton fabricated 4 brackets and voila the new shroud was in! Wired up with 2 new relays and they were alive! And pulling in a very significant amount of air.
Next. The car was running poorly and quit on me on the way to Clayton's. He came and met me on the side of the road, piddled with the carb and got it restarted and to his house under it's own power though greatly reduced. Long story short on that one was that the carb was full of gunk from sitting up so long. Clayton took it off, took it apart and cleaned it really well. Now it runs like a champ!
Clayton also thought that my "overheating" issue may just be a full overflow reservoir so I drained it and so far so good.
Met Todd down at CTC yesterday and it never hit 180ยบ. Ran great. Just need to fix my gas gauge. Clayton thinks that it too is from sitting up with ethanol gas. After CTC I'll see if I can get it working again.
Thanks again to Clayton. YOU'RE THE MAN!!!
